Cahir Castle – One of Ireland’s best preserved and often missed castles, County Tipperary

by | Apr 24, 2016 | Castles, Landmarks & Buildings, Tipperary, TV & Movies

The fastest route from Dublin to Cork follows the M7 & M8 through County Tipperary.

And while many travelers make the stop at the castle-topped outcropping of stone in Cashel, very few make the small detour into Cahir.

Cahir Castle is one of Ireland’s largest and most well preserved, held privately until 1961. Though used as a location for movies & TV – most notably Excalibur and The Tudors- Cahir castle remains relatively ‘undiscovered’ by tourists.

Cahir Castle is managed by the Office of Public Works (OPW).
