Celtic Connections Festival: Glasgow — Scotland

by | Jan 20, 2011 | Festivals Worldwide

Celtic Connections  is one of Europe’s premier winter festivals and one of the  top ranked Celtic festivals in the world. During the latter half of January each each year, concerts take place across Glasgow city center in venues ranging from the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall to neighborhood pubs, to the historic Saint Andrew’s in the Square to the intimate listening space at the National Piping Centre.

After concerts wind down for the evening, there’s the ever popular Festival Club, the Late Night Sessions, and the House of Song to keep the music going through the night and into the morning.

There are also workshops, talks, and interviews to attend. There’s always a strong contingent of Irish artists taking part, from rising stars to internationally known musicians including Altan, Mary Black, Cherish the Ladies, John Doyle, Cathie Ryan, Paul Brady, Roisin Elsafty, and many others.

Can’t make it to Glasgow? BBC Radio Scotland, Ireland’s Radio naGaeltachta, and the University of Strathclyde’s Celtic Music Radio broadcast concerts and interviews with musicians during the festival, many of these available online.
