Discovering Irish Design and Craftsmanship: Cahir, Co Tipperary

It’s refreshing to find a place dedicated to Irish designed crafts. The Craft Granary in Cahir says “no thanks” to mass-produced Plastic Paddy items and specializes in beautiful, handcrafted items by artists from the southwest corner of Ireland. The product line is exceptionally diverse from pottery to glassware to baby clothes to knitwear to painting… it’s got a little bit of everything. Best of all, everything is of Irish origin and the staff is happy to tell you more about the artists and other sites in the area.

Unfortunately, the shop isn’t in sight of Cahir Castle, so too many visitors miss it. From the Castle, just go up the street to the center of town… you can see the big grey granary just down the block. You might be tempted to stop by Cahir’s line of cafes and shops on the way where you may also find free wifi… there’s also free wifi outside the library next to the Prince of Pipes statue.
