If you spend some time on Inis Mor (and I mean more than the couple of hours that a day trip encompasses), please take some time to visit Joe Watty’s Pub.

Many nights have music, and the place gets pumping with drinks and dancing. We were there on a Saturday night, and the music was grand, the crowds were thick, and the buzz was high.

Some nights are more quiet – we were there on a Sunday evening, after the day trippers and weekenders had gone home. Most of the conversations I heard around me were in Irish, and the owner came over for a lovely chat.

Not only do they have fantastic food (the mackerel salad is divine!), but the owners and staff truly care about the hospitality of the place, and the island. The place is just on the edge of Kilronan, on the main road out of town – you can’t miss it. Don’t forget to stop and say hello to the true owner, a wee black dog.
