A Taste of the Sea with Kerry Fish: Portmagee, Co Kerry

by | Jul 1, 2012 | Food & Drink, Kerry, Memorable Experiences

As you’re driving the Ring of Kerry (and the Skellig Ring), be sure to pack a cooler if you’re renting a home or apartment. You’ll definitely want to stop at Kerry Fish, in Portmagee. A huge warehouse that offers freshly caught fish for sale, Kerry Fish offers a glimpse of daily life in Ireland. All fish from Kerry Fish is caught in Irish waters by local fishing boats and cooperatives. If you don’t have a kitchen or a way to cook your fish, then be sure to purchase some packs of smoked salmon, especially if you’re packing a picnic. Kerry Fish is County Kerry’s oldest salmon smokery.

If you are renting a home, as we did, stock up on some gorgeous fresh fish, and make fish chowder. They’ll even provide the recipe.
