Fairytale Ceramics with Artist Cara Turner: Castlecove, Co Kerry

by | Jul 19, 2012 | Arts & Crafts, Kerry

We all know Ireland is filled to the brim with magic. However, I know a place where you can see, touch, and buy a bit of magic. It’s Cara Turner Ceramics, located in Castlecove. You’ll see her whimsical sign on the north side of the Ring of Kerry, and along the winding driveway, even more signs of magic – dragons perched atop walls, red topped mushrooms growing from grass, small castles and creatures, and a magical building covered with stars at the end.

Artist Cara Turner has the talent and vision to bring this magical world to life. A trip to her shop is almost like a trip to Neverland – but in this case, you can take it with you. We bought several small wizards, a fairy tree candleholder, a dragon, and ordered a replica of Pier Cottage, where we stayed for two weeks. A few months after we returned home, we received in the mail the perfect souvenir of our time in Ireland – a small cottage sculpture, every detail perfect, even down to the seagull on the roof. What made it even better? She made our daughter into a mermaid.
