Explore the Thatched Cottages: Glencolmcille, Co Donegal

Glencolmcille Folk Village is the realized dream of Father Dyer, a local who wanted to do something to increase tourism and industry to this seaside town. He did so by setting up several cottages to portray life in various times through Irish history – 1750, 1800, 1850, etc. Each cottage (all with thatched roofs, of course) have furniture, tools, and decor typical of the era they represent. There is a small gift shop with local crafts, and a cafe to stop at and enjoy.

Further up the road, there is a pilgramage with stations that you can follow, and a stunning view across the sea cliffs.
