The Dark Hedges: Stranocum, Co. Antrim

The Dark Hedges is a fantastic avenue of beech trees that looks like an impressionist painting by Van Gogh. Well over 200 years old, the trees twist into incredible shapes, forming a tunnel leading to Gracehill Golf Club in Northern Ireland. Hidden away deep in the countryside of County Antrim, legend says the spectacular avenue of trees is haunted by a “gray lady”. © 2012 Michele Erdvig

Adding this to my list of must see places!

Such a delightful place! We almost missed it, but when we stopped for petrol, the local shop keeper knew just where it was, and gave us great directions.

I have directions on how to find the Dark Hedges in my book. However, like all Irish directions they are slightly cryptic. Fortunately “turn left at the white cow” is not one of them. You will find the trees with my directions and if you have faith!

Update: Since I was there and took my photos (wasn’t the sun at a great angle?) a fence had been added to the line of trees. I’ve seen a photo of it and it does impact the natural beauty of the avenue.
