by | Jan 25, 2013 | Castles, Galway, Hauntings & Mysteries, Landmarks & Buildings

Menlo Castle, a once magnificent home of the Blake family was built in 1569 on the banks of the River Corrib.

In 1910, Menlo Castle was gutted by fire trapping two servants & Miss Ellen, the invalided daughter of the Baronet & Lady Blake. The two servants were forced to jump from the roof of the castle, one dying instantly, the other taken in agony to hospital. The body of Miss Ellen Blake was never found.
